Jennifer Hessler is a PhD Student in Film and Media Studies at the University of California, Santa Barbara. She earned a MA in Film and Media Studies at UCSB and her BA in Screen Arts and Cultures from the University of Michigan. Her dissertation, “The Nielsen Ratings: From the Audimeter to Big Data,” is a cultural history of Nielsen Media from 1950 to today. She has presented work at the Society of Cinema and Media Studies, the Cultural Studies Association, and the Popular Culture Association. She works as an editorial assistant for the journal Camera Obscura: Feminism, Culture, and Media Studies and is the Coordinating Editor of Media Fields journal, for which she is currently co-editing an issue on Digital Distribution.
