Q: Where is the department located?
A: The Film & Media Studies department office is in the Social Studies and Media Studies Building, Room 2433. This is on the second floor of SSMS. The professor’s offices are also located in SSMS. See this map.
Q: I’m not an FM major, but my class does show films. May I check out films from your office?
A: Our library is only open to FM majors or students enrolled in a film or media course which charges a $16 lab fee.
Q: How long can I check out a film? Where can I watch these films?
A: During the quarter films are available for checkout Monday through Friday from 8:00 to 4:30. All DVDs, LDs, and VHS tapes checked out are due back by closing time that day. There are no overnight check-outs. During midterms and finals check-out time is limited to a two-hour period. There are viewing stations at the Learning Lab on the second floor of Kerr Hall for watching these films.
Q: I’d like to check out a video camera (or some other piece of production equipment) from your department. How do I do that?
A: Our production equipment is only available for course assignments for students currently enrolled in a Film & Media Studies’ production course. Because our inventory is very limited it is not available for independent projects even for our majors. Students from other majors are directed to Kerr Hall’s Equipment Management office (first floor of Kerr) where equipment may be checked out if a professor co-signs for it. See the Instructional Development website for more details.
