June 30, 2018

This film series, organized by the SBMA and curated by UCSB Professor of Film and Media Studies, Cristina Venegas to complement Pacific Standard Time LA/LA relates specifically to three of the Santa Barbara based exhibitions: Valeska Soares: Any Moment Now, SBMA; Guatemala from 33,000 Kilometers; Contemporary Art from 1960 – Present. Museum of Contemporary Art Santa Barbara; and Suzanne Lacy and Pablo Helguera, the UCSB Art, Design, and Architecture Museum. The films speak to speculative futures and spaces, irrevocable pasts, gender perspectives, and living with fear as a condition of contemporary life. The filmmakers represented in these works delve into the relationship between cinema and truth, individuals and their environment, and the place of stories as engaged social practice.
